ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES IN MIDDLE SCHOOLS
At the middle school level, interscholastic programs including football, volleyball, cross country, wrestling, basketball, track, cheerleading and drill team are "no cut" programs. Interscholastic activities provide opportunities for skill development in an environment that accepts and accommodates diversity in physical development, and also play a major role in providing early adolescents with experiences that are essential to building confidence and self-esteem.

ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES IN HIGH SCHOOLS
Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in the high schools are a significant part of the total educational experience available to students. These activities are an extension of the classroom and contribute immeasurably to a positive school climate and individual student growth. Participation in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities is strongly encouraged because students learn teamwork, self-discipline and the value of hard work, develop physically and emotionally, and develop a sense of belonging.

The Activity Participation Fee (APF) is a fee that will be charged at the time of registration to all students in grades 6-12 and will go toward the support of activities in middle and high schools. The APF supports the existence of these programs and allows students the continued opportunity to receive the valuable experiences that these programs offer. The APF includes all sports, activities, clubs and other supplemental contract items that support student activities (see the list on this page).
Fees per student will be charged as follows: $20 for 6th grade students, $50 for 7th grade students, $80 for 8th grade students and $120 for 9th through 12th grade students. This fee does not replace other fees that some programs currently charge. (Drill team, cheerleading, certain clubs and some sports are examples.) The APF will be waived for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Additionally, APF’s will be capped at $250 per family. Payment plans are available for families who are not on free or reduced-price lunch but cannot pay the fee at the time of registration if payments are not made online. This fee will be waived, upon request, to any student who did not participate in any KSHSAA or non-KSHSAA activity, school club, or any other non-required activity which was offered at the school.
