Mrs. Diana Tate, principal, has been an educator and a student in Blue Valley her whole life! Having grown up in the area, Mrs. Tate attended Stilwell Elementary, Blue Valley Middle School and Blue Valley High School. After attending Kansas State University and majoring in Secondary English Education, she began her teaching career at Blue Valley High School in the English department. She taught there for 12 years before earning her Master's Degree at UMKC in K-12 Building Administration. She has been an assistant principal at Oxford Middle School and principal at Pleasant Ridge Middle School before opening Aubry Bend in the fall of 2011. Mrs. Tate is married and has three grown children who all attended Blue Valley Schools K-12. She enjoys cooking, reading, gardening and travelling in her free time.

She loves interacting with middle school students because they are so full of energy. She often talks about how much students grow, change and mature during the three years they spend in middle school and is always emotional when they move on to high school.‚Äč


Mr. Ryan Colburn, assistant principal, has been in education for over two decades.  Mr. Colburn grew up in Prairie Village and attended schools in the area.  After attending The University of Kansas majoring in Middle and Secondary Mathematics Education, Mr. Colburn taught in Shawnee Mission High Schools and served as the Head Cross Country and Head Track and Field Coach for 17 years.  In 2016 Mr. Colburn completed his Master's Degree from Baker University in School Leadership and moved to Blue Valley to begin his Administrative career.  After serving one year at Blue Valley Northwest, Mr. Colburn moved to Aubry Bend Middle School to serve as the assistant principal.  Mr. Colburn is married and has two children, one in high school and one in middle school.  He enjoys spending time with his family and running in his free time.

After teaching in high schools for years, Mr. Colburn enjoys working in the middle schools.  The students are so fun to talk to and have such a passion for school and learning. 


Mrs. Nicole Orrick, administrator intern, has been with the Blue Valley School District for twelve years. She grew up in a military household and traveled extensively. Her Bachelor of Science in English Education was obtained at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She came to Kansas and Blue Valley West high school for her student teaching which ultimately led to her employment and a position at Blue Valley Northwest High School. Her Master's Degree in School Leadership was received from Baker University in 2015. Mrs. Orrick met her husband while working at BV Northwest and together they have a daughter who has just started preschool. She enjoys reading, decorating, and spending time with family and friends.

She loves working with young people and being in a career where she knows she will make a difference. She is most inspired by her daughter. Every day she comes to work and thinks, "What kind of middle school experience do I want my daughter to have?" Using this motivation helps Mrs. Orrick provide the best possible experience for each student at Aubry Bend Middle School.
